<text>A very basic GUI for the multi-platform/protocol CLI downloader WGET. Maybe too basic for those who want modern features (full integration with multiple browsers, file selection, download-everything-on-the-page functionality, support for one-click hosters, etc) but as a simple download manager which is independent from the WWW browser, doesn't consume much resources and does exactly what it's supposed to - download - it's very nice.</text>

<description>WackGet is a download manager. It maintains a queue of files and downloads them in the order you specify. WackGet is a minimalist application. It doesn't tax system resources, doesn't require a lot of screen real estate, and doesn't include extraneous features. It's free, ad-free, and uses wget to download files.</description>

<text>When you use Transmission (even if not natively but for example on your FreeNAS box) then the Remote GUI is indeed a valuable accessory: it's got an uTorrent-inspired interface, uses trackers from the announce URLs for label and allows to set speeds/connection limits for individual .torrents.
The only negative thing to say about the software are release intervals - reported bugs get fixed in decent time, but a binary releases containing those fixes tend be be released way to far apart.</text>

<text>However you want to look at it, there's always the comparison with uTorrent. Without that Halite would be an awesome client, with it there's a bunch of little things that you'll find in uT but will miss in Halite. Proxy support for example, I personally also like uT's label system and &quot;add torrent&quot; screens a lot (it's a pain to add additional trackers in Halite, you have to enter 'em one by one, while in uT you can simply paste the complete list), couldn't get CIFS adresses to work (saving to \\othercomputer\Torrents in Halite doesn't work), etc.
On the positive side: it seems that H. does consume slightly less memory and all the really needed functions (.torrent builder, encrypted connections, DHT, etc) are all there. So while it currently is no match for uT there's certainly potential in this program.</text>

<text>A great little tool for checking the basic data of .torrent files. While it has lost some of it's usefulness with the advent of newer advanced torrentclients which also show the data it's still invaluable for quickly viewing the details of files contained in the torrent and checking the seed/peer status.</text>

<description>The intent behind TorrentSpy is to give the BitTorrent power-user all the information they can get in one place. The primary motivating feature is the ability to see in real time the current number of complete/incomplete users on a torrent. The other neat feature is the ability to see which of your files in a multi-file torrent are complete and which are not. It can easily be set up to work as the default .torrent application, so that you will always know the status before you start your download. It gives you quick shortcuts to related Tracker web interfaces, and it's got a smattering of other fine features.</description>

<text>...but definitly easier to manage and apply the settings, especially for not so tech-savy users ;)
The only program on my system that I've honestly bought, and it's been worth every &#8364; I gave for it. It's rather unobtrusive, simply sits in the tray and displays up/down speeds and ping times. Skinnable, on XP can set besides protocols also program's priority (through the GUI, if I understand correctly then through the console and/or configuration files program defining works also under older OSs), provides basic firewall functionality.
As for the main purpose of the program - bandwidth shaping - that seems to work nicely. Surfing ain't notably slower even if I'm downloading and uploading at full speed in the background, the program throttles the speeds if ping value gets too high. While I also limit the speeds in the programs that I use it's mainly to save the resources of my secondary machine, which is slow and much-occupied :P
All in all quite recommended. The only things I can complain about are minor things, like that newer betas seem to be incompatible with Win2000 or that on my XP machine the speed/ping window is closed by default.</text>

<text>One more utility from Merijn (the same guy who created CWShredder and HijackThis), this time to catalog your movies. And... well, it's... odd, mainly. It has a very simple text-only UI allowing to insert movie's name, URL and some basic data. And that's it. No place for reviews, posters, actors, etc usually found in such programs, no automatic data fetching from the Web. More a spreadsheet than a full-fledged cataloging program.
Never the less, I keep using it, even with all it's bugs (and there are a number of them) :P</text>

<text>Pretty much everything you'll find in commercial cataloguers is available in ANT. And if you really miss something then be a man (or woman) and code it yourself. Probalby the best part is the access to moviesites - it's done through interpreted scripts. So if your favorite site stops working just open the script which deals with this site and fix it.
The only complain I have is that Ant holds the whole database in memory, so for large databases the usage can be pretty high.</text>
