Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to publish updates (known as tweets) and read other users' updates (also known as tweets).

Twitter now offers 'lists' which allow you to group your followers and/or non-followers into different lists (public or private), so perhaps subjects include family, friends, co-workers, etc.

This is especially useful if you are following thousands of people, and want to see just a certain amount of peoples' tweets without unfollowing thousands of people, or constantly checking various profiles for new updates.

<text>Google Reader is THE most capable web-based RSS reader out there. That said, it's still short on key features: 1) Autorefreshing 2) The ability to notify users when a specific feed/feed folder has new items. It's also painfully slow compared to locally executed RSS readers such as NewsFox. However one can't help but love its sharing component, as well as its ability to merge all the feeds in a folder into a giant metafeed that can be read by another reader. Oh, and any feed you subscribe to becomes completely searchable, which makes finding old news items a breeze.</text>

<text>Last.fm is a great site for serious music fans. That said: 1) The subscriber service isn't worth paying for 2) Features such as real-time profile updates, Twitter integration, Recommended Journal reading, an RSS feed for each user's activities, a way to "follow" your friends on the service and an official Facebook app that actually works are missing. 3 stars on Features and Price/Value. 5 otherwise.</text>

Last.fm is a UK-based Internet radio and music community website, founded in 2002. It claims over 21 million active users based in more than 200 countries. On 30 May 2007, CBS Interactive acquired Last.fm for £140m ($280m USD).

Using a music recommendation system called "Audioscrobbler", Last.fm builds a detailed profile of each user's musical taste by recording details of all the songs the user listens to, either on the streamed radio stations or on the user's computer or some portable music devices. This information is transferred to Last.fm's database ("scrobbled") via a plugin installed into the user's music player. The profile data is then displayed on the user's profile page. The site offers numerous social networking features and can recommend and play artists similar to the user's favourites.

Users can create custom radio stations and playlists from any of the audio tracks in Last.fm's music library, and are able to listen to some individual tracks on demand, or download tracks if the rights holder has previously authorised it. Registration is required to acquire a profile but is not necessary to view any part of the site or to listen to radio stations.

Only free in the U.S., Germany and U.K.

Gmail, officially Google Mail in Germany and the United Kingdom, is a free POP3 and IMAP webmail service provided by Google. On April 1, 2004 the product began as an invitation-only beta release. On February 7, 2007 the beta version was opened to the general public. With an initial storage capacity of 1 GB (and growing, now over 7 GB), it drastically increased the standard for free storage.
Today it's also possible to visit the site trough: http://www.gmail.com, although it redirects still to mail.google.com

It also can be used as a SaaS-webmail for your domain with help of Google Apps.
