<text>Transferring responsibility for drawing the UI from the CPU to GPU is perhaps the greatest contribution of DWM, improving system performance noticeably.

DWM is often compared to Compiz Fusion, which performs a similar function. While Compiz requires less resources, DWM is smoother, more stable, and has better scaling capability. I think if Microsoft were to provide an API for DWM, the windows community could create their own fancy eye-candy effects ;)

I make good use of both the enhanced Alt+Tab and the new Win+Tab functionality DWM provides, given as I am averse to having to switch windows with mouse and taskbar.</text>

Desktop Window Manager (DWM, previously Desktop Compositing Engine or DCE) is a compositing window manager, introduced with Windows Vista, that enables the Windows Aero graphical user interface and visual theme. The Desktop Window Manager requires graphics cards supporting DirectX 9.0 and Shader Model 2.0. DWM is not included with Windows Vista Starter edition. It is included with Windows Vista Home Basic edition, but with some aspects of the Windows Aero interface (such as Glass and Flip 3D) disabled. It is also included with Windows Server 2008, but requires the "Desktop Experience" feature and compatible graphics drivers to be installed.

<text>Now this is what so called "cloud computing" ought to be, seamless and incredibly easy to use.

Dropbox is an amazingly useful utility. With both explorer and web integration, I can access my important files anywhere.</text>

Dropbox is a super fast file syncing utility without a complicated interface to learn. It's seamlessly integrated into your desktop and all of your files are available via the web. Shared folders can be used for easy collaboration around files. It includes version management so you can un-delete files or restore old versions in a snap.
