Such a shame. Of course, when I was in college, we used VAX/VMS command line C in VI and had to keep clearing out our old versions (every time you saved, it just created a new version, so you'd have to clear out program.c;1 – program.c;45 and just keep the latest one). We'd have killed for the ability to use a context-highlighting editor. And that was in '99-2000.
Basic Mac app--essentially, a combination of Notepad and Wordpad. Has a plain-text mode along with a rich-text mode, read/writing RTF, DOC & DOCX, and ODT
Not at all--can't program a bit. I just coincidentally happen to live and breathe in TextEdit.
