Notepad++ is a free, open source (GPL) source code editor which supports several programming languages running under the Microsoft Windows environment. Notepad++ is hosted on SourceForge.net, from where it has been downloaded over eight million times. Notepad++ supports syntax highlighting for 44 programming, scripting, and markup languages. Users can also define their own language by using the built-in User Language Define System, which makes Notepad++ extendable, to have syntax highlighting and syntax folding.
