Anyone have any thoughts on a comparison of Basecamp Vs Unfuddle
We are trying as a company to choose between Basecamp, Unfuddle, Assembla,
and TeamWorkPM and the choice is very hard. Was wondering if anyone had any
thoughts.
Basecamp is called "Project Management Software", but it should not
be considered "software for managing tasks within a project". It
should be "software for listing project names".
I can't imagine how you'd use this to do anything more detailed than keep a
short list of high-level tasks like "Finish web site for client X".
If you have one or two people who have largely independent projects, it might
work, but once you try to scale it beyond more than 10 or so tasks and three
people it devolves into a mess. There's no prioritization or categorization of
tasks (beyond ordering the task list), so you have to read through pages of
tasks to figure out what is what. Even simple things like putting line-breaks
in a task or attaching a file to a task is impossible. The various areas have
no connection to each other so you have to paste urls into messages to
cross-reference messages to tasks and vice versa. And there are no task
dependencies, so you'll never know when something you're waiting on is complete
unless someone remembers to CC you.
Basecamp is basically a pretty version of notepad with checkboxes. Before
you decide to use it, make sure that you won't ever need to scale up. And try
managing projects by sharing a document on Google Docs to see if it doesn't give
you what you need for free.
This basic editor works great but lacks advanced features. I suppose for a
large group with basic skills the more basic the better but I wish I had the
option to enable higher end features if I wanted to.
This is a great app for project management. It's very easy to use which makes
it accessible for many project members. Personally, I'd like to see more
advanced features but as a tech guy I find less people use the more advanced
systems. This is so simple that other folks on the project tend to use it. A
system is only good if everyone on the project uses it.
Dead simple CRMS. Tried 15 other suites kept coming back to this one. Would
like to see better integration with their other products like Basecamp etc. The
BCC email function into Highrise is an elegantly simple solution.
