Windows Command Processor (cmd.exe) (commonly known as the Command Prompt) is the command line interpreter for Windows NT-based operating systems (including Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, Server 2003 and Server 2008). The Old Command Line Interface... Nothing like DOS, and yet everything like Windows. Love it or hate it if you have a need to get somewhere and you know how to use it, Command Prompt will always get you there in a hurry. And open things in even more of one. It's not nearly as functional as Bash or Dash, and is nothing at all like a Unix Shell. It's strength lies in how basic it is, not it's abilities. A shame however that it can't do more, but then again that's what we have Powershell for now.
