Crashes on me?
A requirement from Microsoft; I wish it was faster.
A must have for searching for the contents of files.
The file organization on my work PC is NOT optimal for this. It's constantly trying to index my files and never completes. I believe this is because I move a huge number of files around quite often. Still trying to find out how to disable this as I would NEVER use windows search while "Windows Grep" exists.
Good. err.. better... (Nothing is good enought in Windoze)
On XP, Windows Search has been implemented since Service Pack 3. You can access to it by typing into the textfield in the application bar, or by clicking on the lens icon in the tray area, or, again, inside Explorer by clicking the 'Search' button or choosing the same voice from the menu. In Vista and in Windows 7 fortunately Microsoft improved the user interface, so this feature has become more accessible and usable.
I suppose which the aim was to make an 'extension' for Explorer similar to the Spotlight function on OS X Leopard, but the integration into XP is a failure, since it also uses many memory resources, CPU usage, and HD space.
This tool causes a great amount of thrashing on my HDD. It slows system performance considerably on both XP and Vista, however Vista is less apparent. I would recommend organizing your files so you only have to index a small portion of your hard drive, and storing your files on a separate drive from the operating system. This will drastically increase your performance.
Better if its built into Vista, but the XP version still works well. It does have an issue with crashing if it finds too much stuff and you want to do search, on top of search.
O sistema de busca do Windows é horrível mas mesmo assim essencial para achar algumas coisas perdidas no HD
lags the shit out of my computer, just un-install it form the add/remove programs
