<text>Flaky subtitles support. It's an essential tool since QuickTime can't open so many formats, even with Perian installed, but I don't really enjoy using it.

Preferring Movist these days.</text>

<description>VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player and multimedia framework capable of reading most audio and video formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, DivX, MPEG-1, mp3, ogg, aac ...) as well as DVDs, Audio CDs VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a media converter or a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on networks.</description>

<text>Movist has become my video player of choice, despite some minor annoyances. It will play a variety of formats that QuickTime can't or won't play without additional libraries or plugins. Movist plays Windows Media files without the annoying and often lengthy Flip4Mac import process.

Movist also supports playlists and it scrubs through the timeline faster and more reliably than QuickTime Player. Two buttons allow fast-forwarding and rewinding in 10 second intervals and hovering over the timeline with the cursor reveals timecode via tooltips. That's pretty cool.

The bad: Only one player window at a time. The app therefore quits when the window is closed like a utility and not like an app. Playlists can't be saved. Doesn't record.

Now that Snow Leopard's QuickTime Player doesn't edit, there really is no reason to stick with it if there are better alternative. Movist is a better movie player.</text>

<text>On demand search feature is killer but: No lyrics support, no shortcut for displaying the current track, no options to change what gets displayed, and the growl integration doesn't work for me. The free GimmeSomeTune supports all the above. As such, CoverSutra is cool but is not worth $23.</text>

<text>For me, the most fun twitter app to use all day. The transitions are addictive and the interface gorgeous. I really like hitting a keystroke, typing a tweet, hitting return and then the tweet input field fades away. Incorporates twitpic and tweetshrink, the latter being a first for a twitter client, I believe.

The app uses the concept of &quot;canvases&quot; as an interface metaphor, something it shares with this developer's other and equally gorgeous flickr application, but that offers some confusion and interface inconsistency. To be fair, there are also some cool &quot;ah hah!&quot; moments, which is another reason why this app is so fun to use Also, I found the fonts to be too small.

Finally, a good use of pop-up notifications: Links within the notifications are &quot;live,&quot; including @symbols to reply directly.

I would use it as my regular client, especially since I've never been comfortable with twhirl; howvever, Destroy Twitter does not support multiple twitter accounts, a dealbreaker for me.</text>
