The Finder is the default application program used on the Mac OS and Mac OS X operating systems that is responsible for the overall user-management of files, disks, network volumes and the launching of other applications. As such the Finder acts like the shell on other operating systems, but using a graphical user interface. It was introduced with the very first Macintosh computer, and also existed as part of GS/OS on the Apple IIGS. It underwent a complete rewrite with Apple's switch to a UNIX-based OS in Mac OS X.

Xcode is Apple's suite of tools for developing software on Mac OS X. Is bundled free with Mac OS X, though is not installed by default. The latest version is always available for free from Apple Developer Connection.
The main application of the suite is the integrated development environment (IDE), also named Xcode. The Xcode suite also includes most of Apple's developer documentation, and Interface Builder, an application used to construct graphical interfaces.
The Xcode suite includes the free software GNU Compiler Collection (GCC), and can compile C, C++, Objective-C, Objective-C++, Java, and AppleScript, source code with a variety of programming models, including but not limited to Cocoa, Carbon, and Java. Third parties have added support for GNU Pascal,[2] Free Pascal[3], Ada[4] and Perl[5]. The Xcode suite uses GDB as the back-end for its debugger.

Little Snitch tells you when a program tries to send info to the internet. If you do not like the idea of information possibly being gathered from your computer and being sent to who-knows-where for who-knows-what, Little Snitch helps. When an application tries to establish a network connection, Little Snitch intercepts the attempt and brings up an alert panel giving you all the connection details including the name of the application, which initiated the connection. You either choose to allow the connection, to deny it or to add a permanent rule for similar future connections.

NetNewsWire is an easy-to-use RSS and Atom newsreader for Mac OS X which syncs with Google Reader. Its familiar three-paned interface -- similar to Apple Mail -- can fetch and display news from thousands of different websites and weblogs, making it quick and easy to keep up with the latest news. It has a free ad-supported and a premium ad-free version. Features include:

* A tabbed browser lets you read web pages with the convenience of staying in the same window.
* Search your news items with a standard Apple search widget -- as in Mail and other applications.
* Downloads podcasts and enclosures, and sends podcasts to iTunes with with your choice of genre and playlist.
* The flagged items feature lets you mark items that you want to keep -- they stay forever or until you mark them as unflagged.
* Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) compatible, and includes Automator actions to control functions in NetNewsWire.
* Other features include syncing, smart lists, search subscriptions, built-in styles, and AppleScript support.
Includes a built-in categorized list of feeds that can be easily subscribed to.
