<text>I just had a first look at iMovie - bad impression. First, it wants you to "import" media, it doesn't seem able to just work with media where they are already located: I hate that. Second, it apparently doesn't even recognize the AVI movies my digital camera produces, meaning I'd have to convert them to "something else" (whatever that is) with another application before being able to do anything at all with them in iMovie. This goes back to the back burner for when nothing else works, then.</text>

No way. I did NOT start using GMail - I hate it.

I do have an account, all I have there is one low-volume mailing list, and one contact; when I read it at all (very rarely) it's via Opera's mail client.

What I did do was look at this page (by following a link) just now: http://mail.google.com/mail/help/customtime/index.html</text>

Gmail, officially Google Mail in Germany and the United Kingdom, is a free POP3 and IMAP webmail service provided by Google. On April 1, 2004 the product began as an invitation-only beta release. On February 7, 2007 the beta version was opened to the general public. With an initial storage capacity of 1 GB (and growing, now over 7 GB), it drastically increased the standard for free storage.
Today it's also possible to visit the site trough: http://www.gmail.com, although it redirects still to mail.google.com

It also can be used as a SaaS-webmail for your domain with help of Google Apps.

Features: in the true Unix tradition - it does only one thing, and does it well. Interface: perfect: just run it (I have a shortcut on my desktop, just one double-click will do). Price/value is perfect too, since this perfect little util doesn't cost anything. ;)</text>

UNIX provides a standard utility called Sync, which can be used to direct the operating system to flush all file system data to disk in order to insure that it is stable and won't be lost in case of a system failure. Otherwise, any modified data present in the cache would be lost. This is an equivalent that works on all versions of Windows; it also lets you flush removable drives.

Motherboard Monitor is a tool that will display information from the sensor chip on your motherboard in your Windows system tray. MBM supports a wide range of Chipsets & Sensor Chip combinations. MBM is compatible with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and .NET

It can sense temps from Cpu, HDD, GFx and Mobo. It does also sense Fan speeds. If it senses that your hardware is overheated it can protect it by Shutting it down (user configured).

Note: after 7.5 years development was stopped because of the difficulties (or impossibility in some cases) of getting the necessary information from the hardware manufacturers; the author's domain is now squatted. It can still be downloaded from here: http://www.download.com/Motherboard-Monitor/3640-2086_4-10518386.html?sb=1&v=1

<text>I've used this program for many years and was quite happy with it - until a few years ago I needed to do something (I forget what) that it just could not do. A search and a trial quickly convinced me of Axialis IconWorkshop which can do everything Microangelo can - and then some. There's nothing wrong with Microangelo - but Axialis is simply more powerful.

Still there are things I found both programs cannot do: extract an icon from "older" Windows executables (which is why I recently tried Microangelo again: it failed to detect the icons just as Axialis did). The solution was using FmView, which could see all icons and has a (limited) capability of exporting one; the resulting BMP can them be imported into either Axialis or Microangelo.</text>
