<text>I used to be a FrontPage user (yeah, I'll admit to it), but when I switched to the Mac full-time for my production machines, I needed a web authoring application. I tried a lot of really primitive or terribly designed design applications before giving Dreamweaver another try (I had tried to use it before, as I always knew I should get away from using FrontPage, but it was too confusing for me). Once I got past the learning curve, I found myself spending most of my day in Dreamweaver. It's still one of the apps, next to Final Cut Pro, that I spend most of my time in.</text>

<text>Final Cut Pro is what I use for the majority of my video-editing work, and for a long time was the program I spent most of my day in. It's fast, extremely powerful, and once you learn the basics, really easy to use. It's so much better than Adobe Premiere and Avid.

Before switching to Final Cut, I was using Pinnacle Studio 8 and 9 on a Windows machine for all of my heavy editing. Once I got Final Cut, I was able to turn my laptop, which was an older PowerBook G4, into an editing workstation, that was more powerful than the Windows machine.

I used to be a sub-contractor for a video production company that swore by Windows and Avid and dissed the Mac every chance they got.... guess what, they're now running Final Cut Studio 2 on two Mac Pro workstations and 2 MacBook Pro machines, which they purchased just after using Final Cut Pro for one day on a test machine. This software really does have an impact like that. I think it's the best editing solution out there.</text>

<text>About a year ago, after being a Mac user my entire life, I started using QuickTime Pro for simple editing tasks, like cropping a video or exporting it in a different size/format. I have to say, it gets the job done fast and it's really easy to use. I bet the majority of QuickTime users think it's just a playback application and have no idea what it can really be used for.</text>

<text>Originally I didn't like Soundbooth. I have been a long time user of Apple Logic Express on the Mac and Adobe Audition on Windows. However, I have to say, I was working on a project and didn't have Logic Express installed on my laptop and I wasn't at my office. I did, however, have the full version of the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installed. So, I opened Soundbooth thinking to myself &quot;hopefully I'll be able to figure this out enough to get through this project, or at least get some work done.&quot; Honestly, Soundbooth shaved about 2 hours off of the time it would have taken me to complete this project in Logic Express. For simple audio editing/cropping tasks, there isn't a better solution if you ask me. The fact that it's cross platform is even better.</text>

<description>Adobe Soundbooth is a digital audio editor by Adobe Systems for Mac OS X and Windows XP and Vista. Adobe has described it as being 'in the spirit of Sound Edit 16 and Cool Edit 2000'. Soundbooth is not replacing Adobe Audition, rather creating a product for creative professionals who do not specialize in audio. Audition will still be available for audio professionals, and will continue to be developed. Due to Intel-specific code, Adobe has stated that the Mac OS X version will only be available for machines using Intel processors. </description>

<text>Facebook used to be better than MySpace... so much better... but now with so much cluttering up the Mini-Feed and applications all over the place, it's just as junky, just with a consistent blue and white UI. I was even more disappointed when Facebook announced vanity URLs. That to me was the thing that basically made it no different than MySpace.

I deleted my Facebook account for a while, but now I'm back, mostly to keep in touch with friends and remind myself of their birthdays and find their addresses/phone numbers when I need them. I still prefer and recommend it over MySpace.</text>

<description>Facebook is a social networking website launched on February 4, 2004. The free-access website is privately owned and operated by Facebook, Inc. Users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region to connect and interact with other people. People can also add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profile to notify friends about themselves. The website's name refers to the paper facebooks depicting members of a campus community that some US colleges and preparatory schools give to incoming students, faculty, and staff as a way to get to know other people on campus. </description>

<text>I love iMovie HD, and still use it. Even for professional videos, if it was only a one-camera shoot, there is a good chance I'll be using iMovie instead of Final Cut to edit it. I hate the new version of iMovie and only use it to upload a movie to MobileMe.

Apple no longer supports installing iMovie HD, so on a new Snow Leopard machine, you have to un-install iLife '09 (if you have it installed), install iLife '08, install the iMovie HD 6.0.2 for iLife '08 download that used to be available on Apple's website, and then install iLife '09. It's a pain in the ass, but it's well worth it to keep this excellent video editor.</text>

<text>I've been using the Finder since 1989, when I was old enough to start using a computer. My parents... they've been using it since 1984. The Finder was always a part of my computing experience growing up, and even though I make a living fixing Windows machines, I will always be a Mac user. Every once in a while, I kind of miss the flat graphical UI that the Finder was in System 6 and 7. I definitely think that the Finder and the rest of Mac OS X is really overdue for a UI refresh. Apple, we need more colors than just blue and grey. I'd love to see a color scheme and UI similar to that of the new QuickTime X player. But honestly, I think the next big advance in Mac UI is going to combine the Finder with the iPhone Springboard and the Dashboard, and that'll be the way things look and act.</text>

<description>The Finder is the default application program used on the Mac OS and Mac OS X operating systems that is responsible for the overall user-management of files, disks, network volumes and the launching of other applications. As such the Finder acts like the shell on other operating systems, but using a graphical user interface. It was introduced with the very first Macintosh computer, and also existed as part of GS/OS on the Apple IIGS. It underwent a complete rewrite with Apple's switch to a UNIX-based OS in Mac OS X.</description>

<text>iChat is my favorite IM client, hands down. I use the Chax extensions to modify it, and it has really come a long way since it shipped with Panther (and I stuck with the original AIM client for the Mac). I started using iChat when the Intel Macs came out and the original AIM for Mac client stopped working.</text>

<description>iChat is an AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), .Mac, ICQ and XMPP client by Apple Inc. for their Mac OS X operating system. Using a Jabber-like protocol and Bonjour for user discovery, it also allows for LAN communication. iChat's AIM support is fully endorsed by AOL, and uses their official implementation of the AIM OSCAR protocol. Using a Jabber transport, iChat users may also integrate their MSN and Yahoo! contacts into the Jabber pane.

You can also use iChat from your menu bar, without even starting the application. When someone sends you a message, the application will launch automaticcally.</description>

<text>NetNewsWire is a great RSS feed reader. I miss the UI of NewsFire, but the ability to sync RSS feeds across computers makes up for it.

I also love that there is a Windows equivalent (FeedDemon), as I'm a big fan of cross-platform software, and I also like having the same features and same software capabilities whether I'm running a Mac or a Windows machine.</text>
