i got this as an alternative to Microsoft word but it leaves a lot to be desired. its buggy very unstable and the only good thing i can find to say about is it price.

the interface is a throw back to the windows 95 like most open source products it works and allows you to get thing done in a round about way.

the performance of this product is awful i ahve yet to have it stay open long enough to actually write anything. this product cam very highly recommended by not only my friends but also several tech journalists that i respect. simple actions such as copy and paste or even the print function cause this application to stop reponding.

it has every feature i could hope for and want in a word processor such as spell check and a print feature, this is all i require from a word processor hence my aversion to Microsoft word but i am quickly starting to regret this stance. Microsoft word may be expensive but at least it works.

its free so at least i can't complain the price and free is about as much as its worth. if your looking for a Microsoft word replacement look elsewhere. might i recommend a program that will actually work such as open office.

It's fast and light so it's perfect for quick editing of documents. Anything complex though and you should be looking elsewhere (e.g. Open Office).

It kept on saying that every word I wrote was misspelled, language set to English, ran the same document with openoffice.
Result: not even 1 word misspelled, abiword was just saying they were for no reason

If Word is more than you need, Abiword works pretty well. It has a clean look, loads quickly, and can save in many formats. Being open source, it has a lot of avid people trying to explain and improve the program. Find the word processor that you like, and stick with it.

This is an excellent free word processor similar to Word and OpenOffice. It can open these files as well and looks quite appealing.

I've recommended this to many friends and relatives for their word processing and every single one of them loved it. Especially my friend whose MS Office installation went belly up in the middle of her mid-term.

It's very light weight and featureful. Has some problems mixing well with OpenOffice files, but other than that, it's great.

It's quite good, but i can't install spanish diccionary and it "broke" some important documents when i save it on doc. Thats why i preffer Wordpad on Windows 7 instead of abiword

Spell and grammar check is a bit buggy. Has basic features suitable for most simple word processing tasks.

Although sometimes it doesn't quite work well with MSOffice files (formatting), it generally does enough of what I need better than anything else

Lightweight, stable but somewhat short of features. Ok for most word-processing tasks.
