InDesign is the best layout program. It allows you to work on a smaller file with links to larger files. It is compatible with all other Adobe Programs.
using it from 1.1 on. Still can be improved but it's the standard in Europe.

Very Great app but it need some imporvment in the GUI , i like i wrote 3 books with it .
I've been using this app since Quark dropped the ball in the late stages of Version 9 of the Mac Os, I have no formal training in DTP, but this app more than suits my needs in creating professional looking documents, in particular the lengthy school text that I compile and revise each year.
