I find it amazing that pidgin has a higher rating than the offical software.
But, I have used AIM a few times, and I felt that it thougth it was too
importnat. It used up too much memory ,but video chat was nice. The ads are
annoying though.
Features are plentiful, maybe to much at times. Best thing to come out of AIM
are the buddy icons. They do allow for development and plugins, which is always
a nice feature.
Interface is okay, hate the advertisements and clunky buttons at the
bottom.
Performance is nominal. IMs are sometimes delayed and the software sometimes
has trouble connecting to the server.

Ugly interface that has several massive flaws. Video Chat is extremely unreliable.
They IM is OK I prefer the older versons
cool program for getting in touch with friends and family.

Stay away from AIM™ for Mac. They stopped support and making new versions in 2004. Plus it has ads, what else is new from AIM. Don't expect much.

Trillian. When I have to use this crappy protocol, I use Trillian. Otherwise I stay as far away from it as possible.
There was a time when they blocked 3rd party clients from connecting.

Being someones "buddy" does not require their approval allowing them to keep tabs on your profile.
"Profiles" are actually just a stupid way to expose personal and stupid info to everyone because they are not private in any way.
