Aptana Studio is very good for front end developers dealing with
HTML/CSS/JavaScript, it is not bad for PHP development as well, but as an
experienced web developer, the things that I don't like about it are:
- It is based on Eclipse IDE which is Java, Java is always slow even on
powerful machines.
- Some annoying errors with the IDE that appear from time to time, like
"unable to read workbench state.." which forces you ro recreate your
perspective every time you open the IDE.
- The default code coloring is not that good although you can create your
own.
- Editing large files is slow.
I like the flexibility and how you can tailor it to your need, I hope it gets
better in the future specially the PHP plugin.
A stonking piece of software. I used to be a Dreamweaver die-hard, but after
discovering Aptana I only use Dreamweaver for knocking up quick prototypes.
For day to day coding (Javascript, CSS, jQuery, HTML etc etc) I now use
Aptana. IT is much more code focussed, which won't be to every web designers
liking, but if you want to get your hands dirty with the code, Aptana is king,
with "intellisense" for CSS, HTML and Javascript, as well as strong
support for jQuery, ProtoType and other JS librarys, I've found nothing that's
anywhere near as good. GET IT!
An Web IDE with style. No annoying wysiwyg instead there's a cool tab to
quickly browse at your WIP. Also love the FTP connection, being able to make
quick edits is always helpful.
Aptana is a way to go if you are an open source web developer. And recently
it became even better with introduction of first stable one oh zero release.
Congrats!
Even in its early stages, it's proving to be a very powerful Web programming
app. I've already made the switch from Dreamweaver, mainly because it's free,
and has active development.

Cool for Ajax, but not good for PHP or Ruby/Rails. For the first hest are PDE and for the second is NetBeans 6 M10 (beta).

Perfect IDE to make your own AJAXified web-applications.
Includes gread docs, and many js-libs...
Dreamweaver - the price = happy KeatonTech
