Pretty good for its price (free!!! :P). I would love some extra features in
the interface, such as buttons for direct access to sounds (e.g. sound effects)
or a console for "live" podcasts recording, including background
music, volume up and down during the recording etc. Anyways, I recommend it for
new podcasters ;)
This is the best free (open source!) audio editor ever--period. It has
features the pros need and can be expanded with plug-ins. It isn't perfect, and
can't do everything. But it certainly does more than enough. I use this almost
daily.
A very powerful DAW. Open source which means it is free. It is great for
recording audio. It is dreadful for tight editing but thats all the cons.
Audacity can be a life saver at times. portableapps.com have a portable version
that can be run off a USB stick.
Very nice project and good music editor. Easy to use, powerful editor and
stable. To include mp3 conversion it's enough to download the lame dll and save
it on HD.
The world's best freeware music editor ever!!!! Its so simple to use and is
completely cross-platform. Only downside is that new versions are slow to
materialize.
I didn't like it at first but I realized what I could use it for, podcasting!
I have yet to master the software, but it works well enough, and it's free!
Audacity is by far the best freeware audio editor ever. It's interface, a bit
bulky, but easy to use. It has all the features i need, and with the VST plugin,
i can extend this program even further! 10/10.

I'm very surprised this is free, considering how good it is.
Í use it for my Podcast http://RuffMix.com - a songwriting cast now up to 124 episodes - a good tool!

Very fun to use to mess around with music, good for recording audio.

like to use it for ripping my vinyl collection and speeding up songs:P
Its THE sound editor.
They can't include mp3 export for legal reasons but its not their fault.
Excellent software. I convert my old LP's to CD's (MP3) Good quality sound. The sofware is easy to use. A tutorial would be handy to have.

Un logiciel d'edition audio, gratuit, complet et disponible sous toutes les plates-formes (Windows, Mac OS X et GNU/Linux) : que demander de plus ? :)

Simply the best (freeware) audio editing software
