I like the fact it's not overly complicated
It's actually quite good for a free video editor.
It is an OK editor. Seen better, seen worse. Free.
The interface is definitely not for novices but Avidemux has an excellent feature set and is very handy for quick conversion and editing of TV recorded DVD's into XVID for playback on device's such as an Archos which is what I mainly use it for.
Avidemux allows you to convert movies from FLV to AVI and many other formats and codecs.
Simple editing with this software is also possible (cutting, resizing, cropping) and add filters.
A good alternative to VirtualDub.
I think, it's the best open-source multi-platform simple video editor...
