Pretty much the only package you need. First thing I install on a new Windows installation after Firefox.
I was on the hunt for the best free firewall software on Windows and I think I finally found it with Comodo. It has most of the features of the non-free firewalls which is great because it can be simple for novice users but it can also be advanced enough for experts.
I use this firewall from three years ago, in XP and now in 7 Professional. It's cool, intercepts every strange conecction, doesn't use much RAM and works smoothly. I love this firewall :D

Five stars all round. Free, great performance and it's easy to use. The pop ups do get annoying every time you try to do something new with a piece of software but you get used to it.

A very powerful, and sometimes intrusive Security program that does all it says and more. It has a fairly valued Anti-virus as well as multiple levels of Firewall security for the user, it is also extremely compatible being the only Windows XP Professional x64 firewall.
I don't use the A/V component but the firewall is fantastic.
A very functional application. But If I were in Comodo, I'd try to improve the interface, which sometimes could be a bit disorienting, expecially for beginners. Also, I would add a sort of filter in the file submission window: I don't have the time to separate evident non-malicious software to suspect files by myself every time (this would prevent to see thousands of file in the suspicious list, which sometimes is a bit frustrating).
As last notice, I don't know if it happens just to me, but the on-line secure-file-checker returns "unknown state" 9 times out of 10.
I use the latest CIS 3.11 and have to say that the software is state of the art. Completely installed its a total protection tool with a firewall, anti-virus and D+. I have used this for a while now and it works like a charm. The Defence+ option is a live safer. In version 4 there will be a new item that can set your system back in time. Looking forward tho that.
It's "free forever", which makes it simply awesome.
There's room for improvement, though. I wish they wouldn't use a skinned interface, and the task icon's right-click menu could use some redesigning.
The training mode is brilliant and saves lots of frustration!
