While rather unoptimal and lacking of features DivFix was never the less one of the first of it´s kind: a program that can strip, and rebuild, missing or damaged index from AVI files, making them so usable again. It also supports checking the basic AVI structure to detect damaged frames.
While every decent player nowadays plays incomplete files and there are better programs to rebuild or check AVIs (newer versions of VirtualDub for example) DF still has a spot, being a small and simple application that can easily be transported and is useful for checking AVIs from uncertain sources for errors.
