The 16th most popular screensaver on Windows

Share

Electric Sheep, named after the Philip K. Dick Novel that the movie "Blade Runner" is based on ("Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep"), is a screensaver with some meat to it.

It takes fractal like algorithms and generates animated art called Flares. It then lets you vote whether you like or dislike (or no vote means you are neutral) with the up and down cursor keys. The positive votes are collected and they are allowed to have their algorithms to genetically form a generation of new Flashes for you to automatically receive and vote on.

Each of these Flashes is called a "Sheep" and a collection of them you watch is called a "Herd".

You don't have to be connected to the internet for this screensaver to work, just to update.

You will have to download a starter herd to get going, and eventually you will start to notice new sheep appearing.
