Ahhh... eMule. I remember using this application when I was in my teens. It's
free, but that's about all it has going for it. I used this application for a
few years back in the day, after Kazaa was taken down and infiltrated by the
powers that be. Napster was also gone at this stage, and most p2p started moving
to alternative methods such as eMule and BT.
Speeds are generally poor, unless you've left it running for several hours to
secure connections, and the GUI isn't overly impressive.
Due to the lack of security (even with additional software to combat this), I
avoided eMule & BT (after people started getting notices) and chose a far
more reliable, speedier and security enhanced alternative known as Usenet. I
haven't looked back.
Pros: Easy to use. Simple for those who don't know any better. Probably the
best way to find those more obscure files that no other application / tool can
beat.
Cons: Lack of security to the point where it's open season with the
"powers that be". Servers normally need to be installed manually by
list online. GUI is pretty awful.
Verdict: Avoid unless there's something you really want to get which is
obscure / unique. There are far better alternatives.
