I use Eye-TV with my model 500, which is a Firewire HD receiver. It's been working very well, and does a great job capturing and recording HD material from an off the air antenna. Sensitivity is good. The software runs well, and has run without a hitch for me on my iMac using OS-X 10.5.
This app will eventually replace my TV in the house. i like it's simplicity and out of the box functionality makes it a killer app. I have however had to tweak my 'sleep' settings on the main box it is installed on, if the hard drive goes to sleep it forgets the usb reciever is still attached, otherwise I can't fault it. My favourite part is 'removing the advertisements from commercial TV and any promotional material from the non-commercials.
I love using Eye TV - it's an almost fool proof interface, and combined with the fabulous IceTV Program guide it means I never have to miss an episode of my favourite TV programs.
Eye TV software when used with the Elgato hardware is excellent. The recording options from the programme guide and ability to crop out adverts with ease is a nice feature.
The Diversity card allows the software to record one channel while viewing another, or use 2 antenna to improve picture quality in low signal areas. This works very well and the picture quality is easily as good as a standard TV if not better.
Good application for what it does, but could be cheaper. Also seems to use a ton of processing power on my Core 2 Duo MacBook. Really useful if you don't have a TV though.
Great TV Application for Mac. It's even better than my TV:)
Excellent TV/PVR application let down only by some minor bugs and interface glitches. Be warned to make the most of it you do need to take out additional TV guide subscription. Recording, formating and exporting all very flexible and slick.
It is good.
EyeTV is a gerat app. And i have to know this (Weekly top User). They have to fix some bugs but it is still the best app to watch tv on a Mac.
EyeTV works fantastically for turning my iMac into a full DVR setup. The only qualms i've had with it is that library sharing has never been reliable even over gigabit and changing the aspect ratio of the content crops the image instead of stretching it, which is a problem for some widescreen content over the S-Video / Composite inputs. The beta support for Canadian channel listings is much appreciated though.
EyeTV's performance is amazing. Even when my MacBook is fully loaded, it can temporarily pause playback, but it never seems to drop frames. The interface is decent. I wish the schedule was more like iCal (with bubbles to show the details), and it seems unnecessary that sometimes dialog boxes are shown overlaid on video, and sometimes as separate windows.
Eye tv is amazing! great pvr functionality and live tv. The tv guide works really well.
It's the DVR for my iPod and iPhone.
EyeTV is a superb application for watching, recording, editing and exporting television on your Mac. You can watch TV and uses a FrontRow style interface when viewing full screen for changing channels, volume and so on. You can impulse record or schedule recordings. One nice aspect which in my mind makes this a key application is you can edit your recordings, crop and remove the adverts or news broadcasts. You can then export for multiple formats including iPod, PSP and others. Combined with Roxio's Toast you can easily burn your recordings to DVD. Well recommended.
