Facebook is probably not the "best" it could be at any of the
things it does. What it excels at is combining functionality between its various
components. What other tool gives you status updating, messaging, calendaring,
photo galleries with tagging, blogging, and games/apps in such a relatively
clean interface? And what other tool combines all of these things so seamlessly?
Most importantly, even if there is another tool like this out there - odds are
most of your friends don't use it, so you won't be able to network with them
there.
The only real negative with Facebook is that their developers seem to have
this constant need to change how their site works right when everybody is
comfortable with it.
