this is one of the three games i have lined up to play in the near future, i
spent some time playing it today and i really enjoyed it, looking forward to
playing more soon..
I got it with my GTX 260 graphics card and I really like it. The graphics are
amazing, aswell as the sound and the 24 hour cycle. The only thing I miss is a
cover system of some sort. Other than that, a very good game!
I got this game for free with my video card and I was pleased. I would have
liked some kind of cover system and some of the side missions got repetitive,
but all in all a good game.
Realy love this game, but there's one thing, that pisses me off - I miss the
feature of pimping guns like it was possible in STALKER and other games... AK
with optic? Goddamn:-)
I think this is a 4 out of 5 star game overall. Not completely amazing, but
it does innovate in some major ways, and tries to make something new out of what
is becoming a tired old genre these days.
The African inspired graphics and soundscape are presented very well, though
the textures and geometry are designed for scaling the large areas in the game
to work on many PCs, including good support for older GPUs, so they don't really
blow you away compared to a Crysis. Unfortunately, the story and characters is
kinda meh, but at least they tried! No, it's not a Half-Life 2, but I think it
makes a lot of other FPS games seem very shallow indeed.
The online multiplayer COULD be really good fun, if more people played that
is. Also, I often find I can't connect to play online, with the game reporting a
filed connection to Ubisoft, so that doesn't help things much!
There are some specific technical problems with the game that Ubisoft has not
fixed (eg. 'save game file corruption' and problems with the scripted game
events causing less than obvious and paradoxical gameplay issues), and though I
have not experienced them myself, they are significant problems, otherwise this
could be a potential 5 star game.
As a side note, I want to mention the included Map Editor, which is simply
the easiest to use I've ever seen, and yet still has potential for making some
pretty cool original maps.
I just recently got Far Cry 2 and am enjoying it immensely. It really breaks
the mold of a typical FPS game. You can travel anywhere in a huge, continuous
world and do anything you want. Because of this nonlinearity, the game reminds
me very much of Fallout 3 without VATS or SPECIAL. The missions are admittedly
somewhat repetitive--usually involving killing someone or blowing something
up--but with the variety of weapons and wide-open environment you can accomplish
this goal in many ways. Pick the target off from a distance with your sniper
rifle, study his path and plant an improvised explosive device, run him down in
a jeep, or sneak up at night and stab him with your machete: the choice is
yours. And with the beautiful graphics, lush environment and breathtaking
explosions it really doesn't get old fast. Finally, compared with the original
Far Cry, vehicles are far more resilient. Flipping your vehicle is no longer an
explosive event, and you can actually turn it back over and get repair engine
damage. This makes driving a lot more fun, especially off-road. I highly
recommend this game.
Original Far Cry was way better at it's time. This game really needs a cover
system and more variance to the missions. I can't understand why can't even peek
behind a tree or something like that. And those guard posts get really annoying
really quick. I was very disappointed overall.
Got it for free with an intel oem processor. I've been running it on absolute
lowest graphics settings, but still looks fairly good. Gameply wise, although
it's not bad, there are some very annoying repetitive elements, for example, if
you are required to pass a guard post twice during a mission, both times you
have to fight LOADS of seemingly suicidal people, and it just slows you down,
wastes equipment and annoys you.
Far Cry 2 is a nice game, with good graphics. Also, the many ways to
accomplish objectives (go in for the stealth kill, blast your way in, go
sniping, etc) and the enemy trying to flank you doing it makes for pleasant
gaming. But the lack of good story, and the fact you have to clear the same
outposts time and time again makes this game a bit annoying at times.

Multi-player is great fun :)
