Excellent quality for a free game, based on production value. The kid-friendly alignment makes it appealing for gamer parents who would like to play with their kids. Though it has content and features that exclusive to paying members, it doesn't make the freeloaders feel left out. (Personally, I can live without the premium jobs.)
The one thing that puts me off though are the loading times when entering mini-games and instances. I'm hoping they eventually release a full client, but keep the trickle download for when an update or patch is released.
Just started this game to see how it is. Seems decent so far. Will report back as I use it more.
My kid has been playing this game for the last day or so and she has been having a great time with it. This is the first game she has played that hasn't been sponge-bob oriented, and it has gotten her more involved then any other game. I like that it doesn't have voice for every interaction because it is helping her read more often as well... The pricing scheme is very Free-MMORPG, where you have to pay to acquire certain items and pets, which I don't like as much as just buying a game. However, it has also given us a good way to spend her allowance on something she actually enjoys instead of the petty crap at stores. Lastly, I like the concept of parental controls. She can't buy ANYTHING with real money unless I approve it and type in a password. That is very re-assuring. However, it seems to restrict ALL in-game communication when the player is under-age, which I don't like quite as much. It is deceiving that there are parental controls to allow you to change those settings, but it won't actually let you if the player is underage.
I can't begin game, because when I'm starting it in fullscreen, game stops loading. :(
I've been enjoying Free Realms. I'm a strange creature who enjoys MMOs but often prefers to solo and this game is perfect for that mindset. I also enjoy the mini-game aspect, especially since I'm a fan of Tower Defense.
There are some bugs and interface issues but the game is new so I expect those will iron out.
My biggest issue is that, like a lot of free games out there, it is not free if you want true playability. Perhaps I wouldn't mind so much if the name weren't FREE Realms. And if they didn't try to double dip a bit by having both an optional membership fee AND buyable items such as the pets.
Boring :(
Nice ;)
@NeHoMaR: I think they mean to say that it's ALSO for kids, but not EXCLUSIVELY for kids. Will post a proper review once I've played more of it (I've just gotten past the tutorial area).
it's a good free game, i whis try it everybody!
I love this game,
10/10
!!!!
The game is out (not beta), I am 31 years old, I don't really feel this game as a kids game at all; not sure why people insist in that; maybe because the graphics? (Battlefield Heroes, WoW, and so on, has this type of graphics, and at the same time, that games are very adult, IMO)
Gameplay and features in this game are clearly better than most of free MMORPG games out there, specially in artistic level, quality, interface, graphics, really professionally done.
By the time I write this, I have 3 hours of playtime, I am enjoying this game; Anyway, I am still not sure if I will play it really seriously and I will be investing a lot of time in it.
It's not a bad game, pretty good for who they are actually aiming at which is kids to early teens; although they have said anyone of any age can play it.
This is still in closed beta, don't tell anyone I'm playing it!
