A sport game on Windows
… More EditFootball Pro '97 was more than a football game, it was a football simulator. Besides just being able to control the players, you can take control over many other factors of play. You can customize playbooks, and plays themselves. You can also play as a coach, or even as league commissioner. Each team can be customized, with unique names, locations, jersey colors, and player attributes. Even the leagues themselves can be customized, leading to a very deep level of play.

Football Pro was quite the series in its hayday. In a time when the simplistic Madden ruled the world, it offered you complete control over every facet of football, You could make the plays, organize the playbook, manage the roster, make trades, draft players, manage an entire league if you want. Plus, the game play was pretty darn good. I still play this from time to time over a decade later, because it's just darn fun. Every time I go back to playing I make the same team, the Funky Town, Funky Chickens. Bright yellow uniforms. Fun Times.
Basically, you can play to just manage, and simulate games, you can play games as a coach and merely call plays, or you can legitimately play football like any other game. The default playbooks were huge, and because of this, even because of dated graphics I think the game still stands up today.
Unfortunately, as the series went on, it got less and less stable. 97 randomly crashes way more than it should. They got less stable from there sadly, and that's why Front Page Sports football doesn't exist today.
Still the old ones hold up today as some of the best football games of the era, and are still entertaining today.
