Gnumeric is a free spreadsheet program that is part of the GNOME desktop and has Windows installers available. It is intended to be a free replacement for proprietary spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel, which it broadly and openly emulates. Gnumeric was created and developed by Miguel de Icaza, but he has since moved on to other projects. The current maintainer is Jody Goldberg.

Too bad it is not developed as much as OpenOffice Calc. It is much faster and lighter and does almost everything a spreqdsheet should do.

If you don't want to use Excel, Gnumeric is a great alternative even on Windows. It's fast and has lots of features, especially its charts and graphs which are very flexible and professional-looking. In addition, Gnumeric loads much faster than OpenOffice so it's great for taking a quick look at a spreadsheet. Overall a pretty nice spreadsheet application that feels less clunky than OpenOffice Calc.

I use OpenOffice.org Calc primarily, but Gnumeric's chart feature is far more flexible and customizable.
