I really love this app! This is a notification system done just right. For the end user it gives a total flexibility on visual and behavioral settings on a system-wide, per-application, and even per-notification kind level. For the app developer, the API is really robust and the included command-line utility makes it really easy to add Growl notifications to a shell script, and AppleScript, an Automator workflow, ... you name it!
This entry (growl-1) needs cleanly merging with the existing one (growl). I placed a merger request a while ago, but it doesn't seem to have been accepted, yet.

Another one of those programs that you might not think you need but once you start using it, it becomes a requirement.
Not a lot a lot to say except I wish I had started using it sooner.

Great for use in instant messengers.
I can't imagine using a Mac without Growl. It's a solid, standard notification system that practically every app on the Mac uses that needs notifications. Why it isn't built into the operating system from the start I have no idea.

A little buggy at times but really useful when you need some event to grab your attention.
