Who didn't use/know Growl Yet? There's not any best notification system on OSX for any type of use. Should be built-in in OSX =)
Why it's not included in OS X? :)
Growl should be one of those applications that comes preinstalled on your Mac. It is one of the most useful notification applications, is extensible, and customizable! I couldn't recommend it enough!
Growl should be a mandatory for Mac users. It provides customizable alerts, both from the system and from any app that supports it, which is most of them. The alerts are both useful and unobtrusive.

Where would OS X be without Growl? Even if that previous statement might have been a bit of a stretch, Growl is an immensely useful Notification system that automatically 'feels' like a part of OS X. Apple should adopt it.
