I love GW. Period. I played World of Warcraft, but found that the point was
to amass loot, so that you could kill things and amass more loot. I enjoy the
great strategy elements that require you to actually think about your skills and
create skill sets that have synergy. In addition the ability to combine any
class with any class is unprecedented. It allows a near infinite number of
strategies and possibilities. Its not about having the most stuff. Its about
having the best strategy and out smarting your opponent, rather than
steamrolling him. The only MMO that could be better than GW, is GW2.
For those who don't know much about Guild Wars may think of guild wars games
as expansions. But, they are actually stand alone games that intertwine with one
another. In other words, you only need one copy of the three GW's to
play(Prophecies, factions, or nightfall). GW may not have a persistent game
world, however it more than makes up for it through its art direction and
cinematic storyline.
Arena net is also making a non-standalone expansion that is coming out in Aug
31st GW: Eye of the North. This expansion features two new races that will be
playable in GW2 (not including former enemies the Charr). that allow you your
future GW2 characters to "inherit" your accomplishments and items.
GW:EN will act as a bridge from GW to GW2.
This game is great depending on your tastes. The best way to describe it is
a cross between a collectable card game and a MMORPG. The reason I say it's
like a card game is because you can only use a combination of 8 skills total at
a time, however there are hundreds of skills to obtain across all the
professions (plus 4 additional professions if you get the expansions).
To really enjoy it you have to be willing to learn about all the things you
can do, and there are a lot for sure! Player vs. player (PvP) is a fast paced
deal and player vs. environment (PvE) is a long series of quests and missions
(although I found the dialog pretty lame). Guilds add a much needed
cohesiveness to the whole community aspect.
Decent MMO, no monthly fees, a lot of fun, expansions. However, GW2 is due in
a few years... Also, as with all MMOs if you start playing you're at risk of
getting addicted. This game can sure steal a lot of your time.
We all love it!
Wooi Halloweeen event coming up:)
