Guitar Rig by Native Instruments is a virtual guitar amp and effects modeling software aimed at the computer-based musician. Guitar Rig features 12 amps, 23 cabinets, nine mics, and 44 effects processors, all crafted to extremely high standards of physically modeled accuracy. Guitar Rig 3 can be used alone or with an optional foot controller, the Rig Kontrol, which acts as a specialized audio and MIDI interface for manipulating patches and parameters. Guitar Rig runs as a standalone application, and as a plugin in all major formats (DX, VST, AU, RTAS)

    it sounds awesome for guitar but i haven't had much success with bass. playing around and making really weird combinations of effects is a lot of fun, though.

    Amazing guitar amp modelling software. Very good and intuitive interface and although quite expensive for the full hardware/software package it really is a bargain when priced against the hardware it emulates. Highly recommended to avid guitarists although if you're more of a hobbyist something such as Amplitube 2 LE which is bundled free with a lot of music equipment may suit you just fine until you feel the need to upgrade.
