I'll tell ya, I wouldn't be caught dead with a computer without HandBrake
installed. I use it ALL the time! It works great and the quality is fantastic.
It let's me even have multiple audio tracks in a video! Nice!
The only thing that bothers me is that, on Windows, the GUI sends all the
render requests to the Command Prompt which executes the render. But I'm
nitpicking.
Handbrake is a rare open source project that is nearly feature complete and
maxes out hardware. I used to use CloneDVD which took about 12 hours to
properly copy a DVD. Handbrake's multi-threaded nature tears through disks in
literally 1/11 the time. It completely pegs the processor even on a quadcore.
Awesome stuff.
Not sure how I feel about this thing. It only works every once and a while,
and using it to encode movies to stream to the X-Box 360 hasn't worked for me
yet. Maybe one day it would be either idiot proof or I will be smart enough to
figure it out.
Between this and discontinued VisualHub, I'm covered for video conversions!
This was one of the apps recommended to me by Wakoopa. I had a need to convert something yesterday and it worked nicely out of the box.

I'm new to this software, but it looks pretty simple and powerful, dough.
The latest Handbrake version is recommended. It can now take other sources than DVD. It's easy to set up and the encoding is pretty fast.
