Homeworld 2 is a real-time strategy (RTS) computer game, the sequel to Relic Entertainment's Homeworld from 1999. It takes place after the events in Homeworld, and concerns Hiigara's response to a new threat, known simply as the Vaygr. It features enhanced graphics and new audio, and its gameplay takes a new direction: Vaygr and Hiigaran ships differ significantly in design and application, in contrast to the closely equivalent Kushan and Taiidan forces of the original game. It's also significant in that it endorses Community mods and has a system to integrate them.

Edit
an unparralelled Space RTS, Homeworld was the first to make a good Space RTS in 3D movement, and Homeworld 2 was the first to refine it. Everything about this series screams impressive, from the dynamic and very impressive backgrounds, as well as the smaller thoughts that were put into the game. (Dust Clouds surge with lightning when Ion Cannons go off.) The praise that this game has garnered is much deserved.
Homeworld 2 re-commences quite a few years after the end of Homeworld 1 with very little recognition of Homeworld: Cataclysm ever happening. (More a don't talk, don't tell policy, and for the same reason.) Allowing the Storyline to crescendo into a massive and suitably epic end of the current "times".
Many old Alien faces make appearances, however the new ones and new ships will strike most players, as well as the refinements to the battle system. The Graphics have once again been thrown up a notch, and although it doesn't support unlimited Ships like Homeworld 1 did, Homeworld 2 on Maximum setting will still fill a screen with decadent volleys of Ion and Plasma being thrown through space at insane speeds. It's enough to make any RTS Junky wish they had more.
The only major faults I can find are that:
1. It was high end when it first came out, I remember buying a new computer just for it, only to find out it wasn't powerful enough either. :P
2. The Interface has been re-worked and isn't nearly as intuitive as the old one, it takes some getting used to, but is workable enough for a combat situation.
3. Research has expanded too monstrously, although I don't mind having research there is so much that it can keep any player busy for a long time just clicking buttons to commence more research to get more research to commence. Not that the upgrades aren't worth it mind you.
4. No Sequel being planned and none ever being likely. Especially since this one deserves it.
A great strategy classic. One of my favorite games!
I love this game, Same with the whole homeworld series. There isn't a Space RTS game like this. Theres lots of mods as well :).
There is simply no other space RTS game like this. The gameplay simply feels different from any other space RTS that I tried.
Eye-catching, movie-like graphics engine, large battles, appropriate soundtrack, beautiful backdrop scenery, compelling storyline (though not as good as HW1), and revolutionary 3D interface.
Lots of fun mods too! E.g. Homeworld 2 Complex mod! I'm hoping that they'll make a sequel also!
Full 3D strategy, this game deserves a sequel
I just loved this game. As Ydna says, the story isn't top-notch, but the game experience is awesome, with graphics to drool over, and a really cool (literally ;) ) atmosphere to it.
The story is pretty generic (an enemy species has appeared in your galaxy and you need to kill them before they kill you...) only thing I don't like about it. The graphics are fantastic, the gameplay is extremely involved. Things are a little more confusing since your ships don't stay in formations, but it's an integral part of other controls.
