The current version kinda sucks for Windows, but I've tried out some
development builds and they look much more promising. Apparently the next
version will support SVG to XAML conversion, which will be great for me as a WPF
coder.
While the recent version adds support for OTF (which got me to use it again),
there are still a few features that need to be implemented to get it to a
competitive level (like the Envelope function built into the selection tool, and
a more accurate Offset function). Though if you're resourceful, you can work
around Inkscape's lack of features and create some intermediate vector work.
wasn't made to compete with Illustrator, but for an open source program it's
pretty damn good, and it works very well with gradients and transparency.
Excellent program for people learning to vector, easy to learn.
New version is out (0.46) but it crashes all the time on me. :/ Also the XAML export is glitchy and not very reliable so I'm not too thrilled.

Lots of features, but when I need to do something quickly I still turn to OpenOffice.org Draw or Impress.
If you love the GIMP you will LOVE inkscape

A really nice drawing program, and open source! The output graphics are really nice, and it was quick to learn as well.
i like it. Use it a lot for SVG
Just found this. It's great for doing diagram to include in LaTeX with the graphicx package.
A good vector drawing program very good for an open source program but can not compete with Adobe Illustrator etc yet.
