Apple has made huge improvements to Install Mac OS X. You don't have to restart to begin the installation process. The interface is more straightforward now. Though I have not tried it for myself, if you suffer a blackout during installation, you can pick up right where you left off once the power is back. A friend tried it out and he said it worked brilliantly.
