The most popular firewall on Mac OS X

Little Snitch tells you when a program tries to send info to the internet. If you do not like the idea of information possibly being gathered from your computer and being sent to who-knows-where for who-knows-what, Little Snitch helps. When an application tries to establish a network connection, Little Snitch intercepts the attempt and brings up an alert panel giving you all the connection details including the name of the application, which initiated the connection. You either choose to allow the connection, to deny it or to add a permanent rule for similar future connections.

a MUST HAVE! You'd be surprised how many apps try to send your info out onto the web. This app lets you choose which one's to allow and which one's to never allow to connect. (Why would my calculator want to access the internet anyway...?)

Great product to know who your computer is talking to. I know that some people use it to protect themselves when their pirated software tries to phone home, but I think it is invaluable to see what type of communication is going on with your computer. Too many apps nowadays feel that can use your network for anything the app wants. This allows me to keep an eye on thing and periodically "dial back" an apps that is too chatty.

I have been using Little Snitch for over five years and it simply works. Nothing like it.

I like Little Snitch's attention to the details of the incoming and outgoing traffic. This app actually made managing outgoing traffic easy for the first time - providing clear capabilities to set rules at the application level. Takes up very little in resources in the background and serves its purpose well.

This is the most essential OSX application for any mac connected to a network. A computer user should never be left in the dark while random connections are made by installed applications to outside unverified sources, little snitch basically gives you the power to choose. If there is only one application you use for security, make it Little Snitch.
