Google mail is great. MailPlane makes it fantastic. It's essentially a GUI
wrapper on the firefox (I think) browser engine. The main benefit for me is the
ability to handle multiple gmail accounts, but the other user-interface bits
make gmail even better to use.
Very good Gmail app. The Mac integration is subtle but great. Love the Apple
Mail shortcuts that work in Mailplane as well.
I have just one active Gmail account I have to manage, but I never ever
use Gmail in my browser anymore.
Rather extremely recommendable if you're using Gmail.. and are on a Mac. Even
exceeds the already well-known beneficiality of Gmail's Browser Interface by
adding multiple Gmail Accounts Support - (what uses to throw up a quite annoying
performance if you're aiming on the like at your standard browser - even with
various available Firefox Plugins).
Here: Account switching made easy, convenient and quick as hell, also all
other processes way faster than in the browser.
But the most important: Deciding to use Gmail as your standard email
application pays totally off, if one is used to, or even dependant on smart
folder sorting, usually taken care of by Mail or Thunderbird, once everything
set up properly and most efficient for personal use - not to be played down -
all this smart sorting is also available on the go - through Gmail. By adding a
personal CSS file as a template (various available via http://userstyles.org), even
the look and navigation can be set up more clean and well arranged, than it
could be achieved via any standard desktop email client.
Mentionworthy as well: Mediaattachment support, just drag- and dropping
mediafiles into the program.
I decided to give Mailplane a try, half a year ago, when the lack of full
IMAP integration on all other available Email Applications made me almost livid
(and I checked out many.. almost any available half decent one, I would go so
far to say.. arrrgh.) and now I am so used to it's conveniences, all
alternatives totally pitched off the horizon..
Merely the price I have to mark down as overdone. Applications like these
should be free, and nothing else... I just wonder why no alternatives, any other
Gmail Applications popped up so far. Monopoly economy, bastardos... :)
Before I got my new computer, this software was a salvation from the constant
web-browser problems I was having. Now that I have Leopard, Mailplane gets to
live in it's on space. I do also use Gmail's IMAP features to get my primary
account into Spotlight, but this is the only convenient way I've found to keep
up with all of my Gmail accounts across Google Apps accounts. My life is much
simpler now thanks to it.
I enjoy the features offered by Mailplane, but I must admit that I do still
going back and forth between Mail and Mailplane and Safari to work with my Gmail
account -- Mail more so since Gmail added IMAP support, but I'm more than
certain that I will use Mailplane even more when I get my new desktop in a few
weeks and can leave it running all the time without OS X choking.
Tried it out but it doesn't even have a Reply to all button, so it's
worthless to me. I'll go back to the standard gmail interface, didn't bother me
that much to begin with.
Mailplane is made for handling multiple gmail accounts. attaching files can
simple just drag and drop files on to the window. it's a must have and must have
for regular gmail user.
I'm using it at the moment but I don't really see the point of the
application. Why would you pay for something you get for free. If it downloads
the 50 most recent messages then there's a purpose. In other situations though
it's just another app running.
I have two G-Mail accounts and this makes handling both so much easier.
G-Mail needs to work out multiple accounts on their end. Until then, I'm all
about Mailplane.

very good
Very good, but little expensive, IMHO.
Simple and useful app.
If you use Gmail. I recommend this app.

Awesome application, purely for the reason that it allows you to switch quickly between Gmail accounts.

Robert, it does have a Reply to All button, it's just visable my default. Customize your toolbar to add it.

I find drag and drop attaching really useful, and, I don't have to keep a browser running.
