For jewellery designers Gemvision has produced the standard for both power and overkill in 3D design for the industry. Matrix is a Rhino3D add on full of incredible features but also poor UI/UX a result of over thinking the design and manufacture of a product.
Version 6 does now use VRay light as a built in render engine which produces incredible results but requires a new learning curve for those used to using flamingo. V6 also runs on Rhino4 which means booleans and other basic modeling functions are greatly improved.
As mentioned the UI/UX was 'OK' at best in v4&5 but v6 has changed icon styles from the classic look and complicated the 'job bag' function. Rail sweeps now include dynamic 'handles' to pull & change the model which is interesting but basic command line tools still rule.
Overall the new Matrix seems more stable than previous releases but feature overkill may have just made this the most complicated of all the jewellery CAD packages on the market. Be prepared to make this a corner stone of your business should you commit to the $8k+ prototyping eqt or outsourced production.
P.S. it's jewellery not jewelery for us Canucks :)
