I've used tech. preview of 2010 lately. Turning a blind eye to crazy russification, it's better than all the previous versions together. I'll change to it from 07.
A must have, of course OpenOffice works also very good and is free.
I mostly use of InDesign. But I thing that nice software too
I have Office 2003, and love using that application, I also have a portable version of Word 2007. But I rarely use that.

Great word processor. I think its the best one available for Windows. Has lots of features. the 2007 version might be slightly slow on older pc's.

I used to write with Pages but Word is really usable now.
It is still heavy like each microsoft's product but they make efforts.

As long as OpenOffice Writer has it's awfull interface I'm sticking to Word 2007. Word does it's work right, the ribbon interface works great for me. The image and text-effects are great.
