NoteBook combines the familiar notebook metaphor — pages, dividers, and tabs — with outlining to create an intuitive and flexible system for storing and organizing information. With NoteBook, you organize your information naturally, using a familiar notebook interface, complete with pages and tabs, sections and subsections. Add notes andother text. Drag in files and folders. Even "clip" web research, mail messages and other content into your Notebooks without leaving the application you're working in. Annotate your information with diagrams and sketches, highlighting and keywords. Take voice-annotated notes that you can download to your iPod. And protect private thoughts with passwords, covers, and encryption.

Notebook is one of those applications that you stumble across and think, 'Wow! How did I manage without this!". Well, it was for me.

The idea behind notebook is simple, replicate the feel of a notebook on your Mac. Now, this may not seem very exciting, after all we all use notebooks every day and we all have text editors and word-processors on our computers. Notebook is, however, a leap forward.

What makes Notebook special? Well, first, its interface is beautiful. You can really make it look just like a notebook. Choose different paper for the pages, different bindings and even a cover. All of this is eye-candy of course, but it makes a difference.

Notebook has different page types; dividers, cell based notes, writing pages, and Cornell note pages. Cornell is a specialised format (I don't use). Cell pages are like outliner pages, allowing easy capture of notes in an outline sort of format. Writing pages are free form note pages, much like a word processor. Dividers are just like dividers in a notebook, they act as groups for other note pages.

Every word you type is indexed in what Notebook call the Multidex. This provides loads of easy to search and sort your notes. Notes can be linked by hyper-links. Text can be highlighted and all highlighted text is specially indexed. Oh, and it all gets put in Spotlight too, so notes can be found via spotlight.

Pages can be given tabs that stick out of the right side of the notebook, just like tabs in a physical notebook (they work the same way to, click on a tab and your notebook opens to that page).

Notebook also has a sticky PostIT facility, so you can stick notes to pages. These notes can be left hanging out of the edge of the notebook too. Clicking on a sticky that is sticking out of the notebook turns the notebook to that page.

PDF's can be imported into notebooks so each age of the PDF becomes a page in the notebook. A great feature for marking up a PDF.

If you use a graphics tablet or touch screen Notebook provides drawing facilities, so you can scribble notes on a page just like with a pen on a physical notebook. Notebook can also use OS X ink to recognise words you write and will add these to the Multidex too.

Notebook is one of the applications I have open all the time I am using my Mac.

I could go on, and on, and on. The best thing to do is go download a copy and use it for a while. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
