The 3rd most popular text editor/IDE on Windows
Notepad++ is a free, open source (GPL) source code editor which supports several programming languages running under the Microsoft Windows environment. Notepad++ is hosted on SourceForge.net, from where it has been downloaded over eight million times. Notepad++ supports syntax highlighting for 44 programming, scripting, and markup languages. Users can also define their own language by using the built-in User Language Define System, which makes Notepad++ extendable, to have syntax highlighting and syntax folding. This project, based on the Scintilla editor component, is written in C++ with pure Win32 API calls and uses STL. Notepad++ is licensed under the GPL Licence. The aim of Notepad++ is to offer a slim and efficient binary with a totally customizable GUI. Notepad++ is available only for the Microsoft Windows operating system. However, users can still get Notepad++ to work on other platforms, like Linux and Mac OS X, using software such as Wine.… More Edit

Nice syntax highlighting and small memory footprint but would be nice to support syntax highlighting for more languages by default. (prolog isn't supported and I don't think lisp is either)
Best editor I've been able to find.
Definitely the best, free text editor on Windows. I have it set as the default app for viewing source code of web pages.
The best notepad replacement abailable! It highlights the syntax for almost every available code language and you can even add your custom highlights. Definitly something I'll use forever.
The most flexible highlight text editor.
A great editor for pretty much all formats. Its a must have for every developer!
anyone can run the source from notepad++ to C++ debugger or compiler?
how can i do?
now, i use "Bloodshed Dev-C++" and "Turbo C++ 4.5" to run a code.
I've tried other lightweight editors but keep coming to this one. It looks great and is easy to use.
Of course, the interface could look better, but that is surely not the main focus for an efficient editor. Without being bloated, Notepad++ offers all necessary and more features that you need, regardless of what language you use for coding.
Best text editor for webdeveloper.
Pros: Tabbed editing, syntax highlighting, code folding
Cons: None that come to mind
Nothing beats Notepad++ for a quick and simple editor for plain text or most programming syntax. I use it often to browse code and perform quick edits.
What I really like: The Scintilla component. Multi-editing, syntax highlighting, code folding and much more.
What I strongly dislike: It doesn't really like huge amounts of data to edit. It quickly becomes slow and sluggish. A pity, actually...
Its a very good software for editing all kinds of files:
.c, .h, .cpp, .java and so on
A very nice text editor... Good for coding... I'm talking about serious coding :D...
This is great for almost anything, and it's easy to use. Love it!
