Oblivion is a single-player game that takes place in Tamriel's capital province, Cyrodiil. You are given the task of finding the hidden heir to a throne that sits empty, the previous emperor having been killed by an unknown assassin. With no true Emperor, the gates to Oblivion (the equivalent of hell in the world of Tamriel) open, and demons begin to invade Cyrodiil and attack its people and towns. It's up to you to find the lost heir to the throne and unravel the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamriel.

This is a pretty game, we all know that - but I think it is also what you make of it. No, it's not turned based and looses a lot of classic RPG elements, but the combat is decent and the difficulty and how immersed you want to get in the game is totally up to you. Now, one interesting thing is how there were zero bugs on my console (Xbox 360) version, but on my PC version, sometimes the beggars have different voices, making things comically awful - but I love messing around around with the mods.

Ugh. Games like these are the cancer that are killing good RPGs. Great graphics, though, and you can tell that, today, that's all that really matters.

With all the mods TES:IV is one of the best games I've ever plunked down $$ for. Way better than Mount and Blade although horse combat would be nice

I just beat shivering islands....just..I dont really know what to say exept...beautiful. I know if I was to get a new graphics card, I'd use Oblivian to test it. Just to see how high I can put the settings up before the game starts to lag. The story is decent(shivering island's story is accually very nice, better than the original story) but any of the elderscrolls games..well at least most of them where to be played for the environment and the world, how you affect it. The main story line isnt the game. It just gives you something very epic to do. But the games true beauty is interacting with people and seeing there personalities. joining guilds. observing evil and good, attempting to understand both. Interestingly enough Evil isn't as evil as I thought. It makes some sence after reading the many books they have which can be accesed and read from the imperiallibrary.com. the world is so rich with culture and has a personality. I once spend half an hour tracking a deer and shooting it down. It was VERY realistic. I needed money and I had to do somthing...so I sold fir for a bit, since I started as a nobody and became, after much hard work, the champion of cyrodiil. Music is just so damn perfect, altho I do wish there was more since many of the pieces are repeated. Oh and loading screens need to be more dynamic. As I was playing shivering I got original loading screens somtimes and somtimes ones that wernt true anymore..you'de see what I mean after you play the expantion. In all my favorite game.

One of the best games ever made, IMHO. The game is nice enough as-is, but with the proper modding it can become the closest thing to the perfect game I've ever seen.

Pretty bad. Decent graphics apart from the horrible animations, which also ruin any pretensions of realism it might have. Many stupid errors (old ladies have three voices, guards catch you in strange places, sounds missing...). Stupid story. And so on.

My most favourite RPG ever. Though it's a couple of years old now, I still go back and play a bit occasionally. Large selection of mods keep this alive.
