The 2nd most popular productivity on Windows

Microsoft Office Access is a relational database management system from Microsoft which combines the relational Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical user interface. Access can use data stored in Access/Jet, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or any ODBC-compliant data container. Skilled software developers and data architects use it to develop application software. Relatively unskilled programmers and non-programmer 'power users' can use it to build simple applications. It supports some object-oriented techniques but falls short of being a fully object-oriented development tool.

its good for testing a few things out and also doing some number crunching that otherwise can't be done in excel.

yes. it is pretty expensive for what it does. especially in today's climate where there's so many alternatives.

it can't be compared to 'real' (R)DBMS systems though. so there's no comparison there.

Seriously this is the most limiting database software there is..
    - it is good for beginners (it does a lot for you, even if it is somewhat confusing.)

Handy for crating databases on a small scale. I rather use VB.Net along with MSSQL for bigger databases

This program is typical of Microsoft. It does a lot of stuff, but is cluttered and confusing. You mostly do things with templates, which is ok with me. The price is preposterously high.
