The most popular word processor on Windows

Microsoft Office Word is Microsoft's flagship word processing software. It was first released in 1983 under the name Multi-Tool Word for Xenix systems. It is a component of the Microsoft Office system; however, it is also sold as a standalone product and included in Microsoft Works Suite.

The latest Windows release is Word 2010 (in Technical Preview stage). The latest Mac OS X release is Word 2008.

    Best. Word Processor. Ever.
Has kept me from failing many a school assignment, due to the fact that no one can read my handwriting.
Sure OpenOffice could do that, but I can't look at it for five seconds without making my eyes bleed. Seriously, it looks like they stole the Office 97 UI and thought incorrectly "Maybe it's so out, it's in."
The Ribbon is the best thing to happen to Office. I don't get people who don't like it. It's attractive, it organizes the tools effectively, and it just works. People who don't like it because "it's new" and "it requires learning," get used to it or prepare for a hard time on computers and life in general. Generally, computers and software involve rapid change. If you can't keep up, you just get left behind. And life itself requires learning, unless you want to live in a cardboard box.
All this to say, keep it up with the innovation MS, regardless of what people think.
(same goes for Vista, the only people who didn't like it are just too lazy to learn something new)

This is the only software that prevents me from using Linux. Why? .. Because almost the entire world is locked to this software and other word processing software out there has difficulty rendering .doc files in exactly the same way that Word does. Microsoft vendor lock in FTL.
