Perl has been around for as long as the web. It was the first real web CGI interface language for browsers. It has fallen out of favor to PHP for recent applications, but Perl is still considered more powerful and dangerous at the same time for web work. When used carefully, can achieve great things.

I consider PHP scripts as coding inside of HTML pages, whereas Perl scripts are programs that generate HTML pages. If you really need a powerful and flexible programing language, Perl can do about anything, and display results in the web browser.

The size of the module libraries show it's long heritage.

Powerful and fun... may seem a little bit hard to understand in the begining, but once you get it, you'll love it.

The inner hacker inside me always wants to play with this hacker's favorite language. I still need to have more command on it, but its really a fun language.
