It was adaptive to many programming language such as C/C++, java, Ada, etc. It was originally developed by Rational company, which played a significant role in the chronicle of UML. I uses the word 'was' because Rational was acquired by IBM, who stopped updating Rational Rose later. Now new-generation UML product can be found on IBM's site.
