This is one of the big spyware and adware. yak
It's adware, spyware, and it wastes system resources
If this was the time in which my avatar was known far and wide, I would actually give this 5 out of 5. In the 90's RealPlayer was MY PLAYER. Then the damn new millennium came and delivered us with crappy software. Why'd ya have to do that? WHY!?
rubbish, takes over all file associations and takes ages to load, Realplayer plugin for Winamp is better if you need to play realplayer files, or a converter like ImTOO Wav/MP3 Converter, it can convert most audio formats into mp3/wav.
The Mac version is actually a decent piece of software, without banners, popups or other ads.
Crapware that gets bundles with new PC's.
I really dislike both the player and the Real formats. I prefer Real Alternative.
This was my first audio player since I had my first pc (W95) and this was my first audio recorder, since my pc only had a CD-ROM that I used often for data disks (like Encarta) for homework. And didn't had an internet connection back then. Also, I use it to sync music with my Palm :). I just love it!
There was a time when RealPlayer was good and no other player could match it. Then RealPlayer G2 and Realone came along. Annoying pop-up messages. Messy install. Messy uninstall. So forever I will never install RealPlayer on my system and just use Real Alternative with Media Player Classic. I'm glad I rarely encounter files with the realplayer format.
if any Real people happen to see this comment:
Dismiss ur realplayer team man! ur realplayer r way out of date and the user experience r aweful.
Real Player has had a history of being buggy, annoying, and having a poor interface. The latest version is a good improvement, but still could be better.
The annoyance is incredible, I told it not to put any shortcuts anywhere, and what happens? I spreads the pest all over. I'm glad I gave them a crap email, otherwise I'd probably receive a shitload of crap. I'll uninstall the crap, and install an alternative.
real alternative is beetter
I remember when Real networks were pioneering streaming audio--and like everyone else, loved the new novel, convenient technology. They also seemed to pioneer, or at least mainstream, spyware, popup adware and other unbearably intrusive means of supporting themselves. Like many, I quickly dismissed the software and moved on. To their credit, however, in recent years they've taken strides to clean up their act and offer a generally solid freeware player with support for a great number of file formats. While not necessarily the ideal software solution for an avid geek, it is an accessible option for those simply looking for something easy to get and use with little effort.
