If a band earned 50000 dollars (ie 5000 parts) the money is used to record an album. Every believer gets a copy of the album, as well as other incentives such as a percentage of the profits. Up to the 50k mark, believers can pull their support and receive their money back if they so desire.

Sellaband is a great opportunity to support the music you love. I've supported in a number of bands, and the quality of music recorded is great! Go listen to Cubworld, Jon Robert, Waiting for Lenny, and others. Their music is great!
For $10 you get a CD, which is a pretty good deal in and of itelf. But you also get the chance to support a relatively unknown artist that has loads of potential. And you also get a small pertentage of their earnings too. Its a great community with some great music.
