The 2nd most popular player on Linux

Share
Qt Mplayer front-end, with basic features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features like support for MPlayer filters and more. One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume...

My default video player in Ubuntu, it even plays some formats that VLC won't play.

For me, the best point ( as for VLC) is the same good performance on both windows and linux.
Some videos that seemed to be brooked in VLC are correctly played by SMPlayer.
Keeping in memory the place where a video was stopped and resuming from this point is a very cool feature (missing in Vlc).

I agree with rpcutts and ycicom, but I add that SMplayer runs the same way on Windows AND Linux which is GREAT in a multi-platform environment.

This is the best player I've ever used. People tell me VLC is the king of the codecs... all I know is that I've never found SMPlayer wanting on the codec front.

The interface is neat and the controls are intuitive. Simply excellent.

MPlayer based, so it can play almost video formats. Simple, user-friendly graphical interface. Many options for scaling, filtering, displaying videos... SMPlayer is the best front-end for MPlayer. Recommended for every Gnome users.
