as always, roms are illegal to possess, but the emulator is fine.

works good and fast. as a low budget retro gamer you should use this emulator.

advice for other retro gamers:

for good SNES games look at the "snes top 100 lists" just google it.

and if you're tired of downloading every rom one at the time. there are some very good NES and SNES rom collections who you can download with torrents.

btw: playing roms are illegal if you don't own the real cartridge and play it longer than 24 hours.

ZSNES uses a weird screen smoothing effect that you can't turn off without using undesirable screen resolutions, and more importantly its sound emulation is noticeably worse than SNES9X's.

I've only played a handful of games that only work on ZSNES, and all of them are hacked/patched versions (the original clean versions always work with SNES9X). Compatibility is therefore not an issue.

Other than the fact that the on-the-fly IPS patching doesn't work very well, and the cheat menu gets glitched up crazily sometimes when you modify/remove cheats, SNES9X is pretty much perfect.

I loved my SNES and it's still fun to play some of my old favorites every now and then. Best of all this uses little resources which means it dosen't kill by battery like other games. This makes it perfect when I'm on a plane.

some of the playability of the old snes games were fantastic. The concepts might have been simple, the graphics short of what we would expect today, but there's something about SNES games that will always keep their appeal.

As for the emulator you need to run them, this is the best by far

Fantastic SNES emulator. It feels much more modern than ZSNES and has historically had much better gamepad support.

Snes9x is a great little application that allows you to play Super Nintendo games on your computer in the format of .roms. So far I have played all those classic super mario games, zelda, starfox and others and it's great - no lagging, and it works on Windows Vista!
